Brave Yoga for PTSD
Welcome!
This group is for anyone recovering from trauma or PTSD that is looking for a community and a safe place for healing.
Sometimes through gentle yoga, simple meditation, and breath work or maybe a yoga nidra (sleep), we will meet to heal together. First time beginners in yoga to all skill levels are welcome.
The yoga or asanas utilize basic grounding poses and are geared for all. Sometimes we will use simple meditations using mudras and basic breath work to reconnect us to our bodies and help our nervous system find a safe home base. Whatever it is I'll do my best to make it accessible to all.
The yoga nidra sessions are known as yoga sleep and a great way to reset your nervous system with minimal physical effort. It is a guided meditation where you are lying down or sitting in the comfort of your home thanks to zoom. The yoga mudra sessions are a gentle way into meditation. A great way to start your day. All sessions are geared towards grounding and a sense of safety.
Being personally diagnosed with PTSD, I started this group because I saw what yoga has done for me and I want to share that. I have my 500 Registered YogaTeacher Training certificate, teach at a few studios, and privately with some other trauma based populations. Some of my personal influences are; Bhagavad Gita a New Translation by Stephen Mitchell, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali translated by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Some recommended reading for dealing with PTSD; The Body Keeps Score by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk and Waking the Tiger by Peter Levine.
If you know of someone who may benefit from my help please spread the word. I offer group and private sessions. Groups sessions are based by donation and I accept Paypal @ w_amos@hotmail.com. If a group is not your thing, I offer private sessions and are on a sliding scale, rates vary on a few conditions please reach out with any questions.
I use: Meetup.com (www.meetup.com/Brave-Yoga) and a facebook group to manage upcoming events. You can also reach out directly to me at williamnamos@gmail.com
